Official opening of the DOK17 exhibitions by Fredrikstad mayor Jon-Ivar Nygård. There will be open square exhibitions in Fredrikstad city centre from May 28 – June 11th, The Old Town and at the Hydrogenfabrikken. DOK17 is proud to present the final work by the workshop program Storycamp 2017, a workshop program for younger storytellers without any previous experience. Open for the general public.

Luisa Dörr (b. 1988) has become known internationally in the last year. She was selected as one of twelve participants for the prestigious World Press Joop Swart Masterclass in 2016. She is a member of the photo agency VII’s mentor program.

JOAKIM ESKILDSEN

Joakim Eskildsen (b. 1971) trained with the Royal Court photographer Mrs. Rigmor Mydtskov before attending the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, where he learned the craft of bookmaking with Jyrki Parantainen and Pentti Sammallahti. He is currently producing three photobook projects and exhibitions: American Realities, Cuban Evolution, and Home Works. Eskildsen lives and works in Berlin.

Damon Winter (b. 1971) has worked for numerous American publications, including Newsweek. Winter joined The New York Times in 2007 after three years as a staff photographer at The Los Angeles Times.

Peter van Agtmael (b. 1981) is a member of the prestigious photo agency Magnum and is one of the world’s most sought after photojournalists. He has just published his second book, Buzzing at the Sill, about the causal effects of America’s warfare abroad the last ten years.

Glenna Gordon (b. 1981) is American and has worked for years in West Africa. She reports regularly from the region for, among others, The New York Times and Time Magazine. Gordon received a World Press Photo award, the world’s most prestigious photo competition, for her coverage of the kidnapped schoolgirls.

The Norwegian photographer Jonas Bendiksen (b.1977) started his career as a 19 year old learning the ropes of the industry at Magnums London office. After having worked there as an intern for a year, he went to Russia in order to become a photographer on his own. This journey led to his first book Satellites (Aperture 2006) and soon after his second book and multimedial project The Places We Live (Aperture 2008). Bendiksen became an official member of Magnum in 2004.
